Friday - Individual Presentations at FRN

The presentations are wonderful. There are so many unique ideas to enhance learning in and outside of the classroom using Web 2.0 tools. Many of these tools focus on gathering and providing viewing of gathering information - let it be on a person or a particular curricular project.

I have some rethinking to do regarding how my blog will unfold. In particular I need to take one element of the blog (RSS feeds, Flickr, YouTube videos) at a time and maybe structure my blog a little differently.

If you would like to view my blog on Indian boarding schools please go to
http://indianboardingschools.blogspot.com/ as I invite you to join in on the conversation.

Wednesday - Random Thoughts

I enjoyed all of the presentations! Standing ovation to each of you.

I was very excited to learn how to place an RSS feed into my Indian Boarding School blog - thanks to Liz for taking the time to walk me through the steps.

I am quite frustrated with the Wiki - I don't understand why I can not edit. I thought I had it solved early today but it looks like I'm stuck. I'll need to visit with someone to see to get this sorted before I leave otherwise my Wiki sails will be down.

I enjoyed the excitement of Twitter in the lab today. I really enjoy the application and do hope that the members of our group will use them.

I really think that I start too many of my sentences with I....

Good night!

My Individual Project

If you would like to view and provide helpful comments to my individual project you may go to http://indianboardingschools.blogspot.com/

If you have any links to other sites or suggestions please post them!

Tuesday - Deep Thoughts

I am exhausted! A lot of additional and new information on technology tools. I am focused at this time on really looking at how I introduce one or two of these tools to my teacher candidates. I need to spend more time really getting into the blogging aspect and preview what other educators have done to ensure the validity of the "hunting and gathering" that I will be asking my students to place within a class blog. My next step is to get a hold on RSS feeds. Maybe tomorrow...

History of the Wiki - Ward Cunningham

Our team presentation will focus on wikis. The team has broken down the tasks and my first major focus is on the history of the Wiki. The founder Ward Cunningham has placed a very useful website that explains his journey and interesting naming of Wiki at: http://c2.com/cgi/wiki

In addition, a video interviewing Ward can be found at:

If you are not able to access the video the written interview can be found at

Monday - Deep Thoughts

This is my first attempt of authoring a blog and my thoughts run deep.... (note title of posting). So much technology to reach out and grab, yet will I gain a strong enough foothold so that I can encourage, guide, and provide meaningful instruction using this technology to enhance student learning, success, and application?

Like most things that I do in life, I find the fear of falling behind the times as a launching pad to move forward, regardless if I want to do so or not. So as I begin my week at FRN I leave behind my insecurities and begin my journey of working with Web 2.0 tools.

I have a rough idea of what I would like to develop for my individual project. I teach Foundations of Education through our sister college Sinte Gleska that is located in South Dakota. One of the textbooks required for the course focuses primarily on the early experiences of Indian Boarding Schools. They Called It Prairie Light: The Story of Chilocco Indian School is certainly a meaningful text told by the recounts of students who attended the school during the late 1920's to the time of its doors closing in the early 80s.

My hope is to bring the story more to life by using a blog site in which my students can discuss their interactions with the boarding school experience as they read. In addition, I plan to invite them to reach out to individuals who can share their own personal stories and post them on the blog.
Adding Flickr photos, podcasting interviews with elders, and RSS feeds would be other applications that I would like to incorporate into this blog.

I am unsure if my task at hand will be obtainable, but I am certainly up for the challenge :)
